How long does the motorcycle basic course last? ▼
The mandatory basic course lasts a total of 12 hours, divided into three course parts of 4 hours each on different days.
How long is the basic course valid? ▼
Once completely completed, the practical basic course is valid indefinitely.
What happens if I don't complete the basic course within 4 months? ▼
The learner's permit expires and you have to apply for a new one. Already completed course parts also expire.
Can I rent a motorcycle for the basic course? ▼
Yes! We offer suitable rental motorcycles for all categories for the duration of the course.
How long is the learner's permit valid? ▼
Initially 4 months. After completing the 12-hour basic course, it is extended by another 12 months.
Am I allowed to ride alone with the learner's permit? ▼
Yes. In Switzerland, you can make practice rides alone with the valid learner's permit for all motorcycle categories.
What is the difference between A1, A2 and A? ▼
The categories differ mainly in the permitted engine power and the minimum age. See our categories page for details.
What does the motorcycle license cost in total? ▼
Including all fees, the basic course and a few riding lessons, expect costs between CHF 1,200 and CHF 2,000.
Does A2 automatically become A? ▼
No. Since 2021, you must take another practical test after two years of impeccable riding practice.
