Category A1: Your Entry into Freedom
The A1 license category is for many the first step into mobile independence. Since 2021, there is an important distinction by age.
Category A1 – from 15 years
- Vehicle type: Mopeds and scooters
- Displacement: max. 50 cm³
- Power: max. 4 kW (approx. 5.4 hp)
- Top speed: max. 45 km/h
Category A1 – from 16 years
- Vehicle type: Motorcycles and scooters
- Displacement: max. 125 cm³
- Power: max. 11 kW (approx. 15 hp)
The Path to the A1 License
- First aid course (valid for 6 years)
- Apply for learner's permit at the Zurich Road Traffic Office
- Pass theory test
- Complete basic course (12 hours)
- Practical test – Exception: With a car license (Cat. B), no practical test is required!
