Category A (unrestricted): No More Limits

The license category A is the premier class for motorcyclists in Switzerland. It entitles you to ride motorcycles without any power or displacement restrictions.

The Path: No More Direct Entry

Since 2021, a direct entry is no longer possible. The mandatory path:

1. Obtain A2 category (includes basic course + practical test)
2. Gain two years of riding experience without license revocation
3. Pass another practical test (no additional basic course needed)

Transitional Arrangement

Persons who obtained A restricted before January 1, 2021 received category A automatically after two years.
